iPod touch

What could the class do with an iPod touch? Besides watching movies and listening to music on it, what would you do with it in class if we had one?  What sorts of "apps" would you like to see on it and how could the class share just one iPod? Please answer using complete sentences!

Tucson Symphony Orchestra String Quintet!

Today we had a visit from the Tucson Syphony Orchestra's string quintet, it was a wonderful experience for us.  We got a chance to see violins, violas, chellos and a double bass.  They played fast songs, slow songs, sad songs and happy songs.  Thank you so very much Tucson Symphony string quintet for giving us that wonderful presentation today, it was a pleasure.  Here is the website for Tucson Symphony Orchestra Kids

Science Fair Projects (Materials & Procedures)

Hello Walker Wolves!  I hope that you are excited about the three day weekend, I know I am.  Just as a reminder to both students and parents, next Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 the students Materials and Procedure section will be due to me for grading.  Once again I will be grading the students based on the Science Fair rubric that we went over and discussed, it is attached to their packets.  We have talked about and gone over extensively what the procedures section should look like, step by step instructions that indicate what they student is doing in their experiment.  I found a great example of how and what the materials list should look like.

I hope that this is helpful to you while you are writing up your procedures and list of materials.  Good luck!

Bookmans Reading Challenge 2010

It is that time of the year again guys and gals, time to put your reading glasses on and get busy!  The 2010 Bookmans' Reading Challenge is now underway and is worth a possible 15,000 to one very dedicated school.  Our school librarian Mrs. O' Mera has already talked with the teachers and is getting some fun prizes set up for the students who are reading a lot of books.  I am encouraging my class to continue to read as many books as we can.  Keep in mind that after each book you read, you will need to fill out a short sheet, describing what the book was about.  Now any books that you are reading need to be 4th grade appropriate, in other words picture books aren't going to cut it.  You are in fourth grade, and you are reading fourth grade level books so lets keep it that way.  Any books that we read in class together, as a class can count towards our school goal as well.  We are getting very close to our read in as well, so we should have a good opportunity to get a lot of reading done.  I am excited for this competition, I think that Walker has got a real shot at winning that money prize this year.  Good luck and let the reading begin!

Science Fair

Hi there everyone, it is about that time of the year to start thinking about the upcoming Walker science fair! There are a few key issues that I wanted to talk about to remind both students and parents of. Students have already received their packets along with the grading rubrics.  The due dates are as follows
  • Question/Hypothesis due on Wednesday, Jan. 13th, 2010
  • Materials/Procedures due on Wednesday, Jan. 20th, 2010
  • Results/Conclusion due on Monday, Feb. 1st, 2010
  • Display due on Monday, Feb. 8th, 2010
The students will be going over each individual step in the class but are expected to complete the experiment at home.  You are all encouraged to come up with a question that is original and unique to you!  Here are a couple of resources that may help you when thinking about some topic ideas.

Please remember that these sites are meant to HELP, not do the work for you!  I love to see students coming up with original ideas that pertain to them and what they are interested in.  Please remember to ask questions if there is something that you are unsure about, I am here to help.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
